More About Me

Heather Sisto Storyteller/Educator
Photographer/Author

Heather Sisto visits elementary schools, libraries and community organizations to bring the joy of reading while promoting a healthy lifestyle for children. Her storytelling sessions actively engage children and adults. Working with teachers or event coordinators, Heather selects thematic companion books by other authors and reads excerpts from her own “ABCs Down the Produce Aisle” series to support healthy eating habits and general fitness. Visits include comprehensive Teacher Guides.

Heather’s first teaching position was as a high school drama director. But once married with two children, she used her elementary certification to teach pre-K through 6th grade. Her tenure as an artist-in-residence with Wolf Trap Early Learning Through the Arts gave her additional skills in using props, music, drama and movement. Heather holds a master’s degree in English from Michigan State University. As a college professor, Heather taught courses in literature and writing at Mott College in Flint, Michigan

Photography is another storytelling medium for Heather. Favorite subjects are landscapes, wildlife, and candid portraits. Her ABC books use her product photography skills to capture the beauty of each fruit and vegetable. Her photos have been selected for juried exhibits, and recently, she won the Michigan Sierra Club 2025 spring photography contest.

Community service is important to Heather. When serving as Honors Program Director at Mott College, her students engaged in river monitoring and clean-ups, urban farming, and story time sessions for childcare centers and elementary schools. She is now a board member of the Nepessing Five Rivers Group of the Michigan Sierra Club.

To stay engaged with trends in children’s literature, Heather is a proud member of SCBWI (Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators).

What Customers Say

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit.

“If you are looking for an alphabet book that gives a gentle boost to vegetable familiarity and healthy food conversation, V is for Vegetable is a lovely choice. It ticks the boxes for aesthetic appeal, educational value and read-aloud fun.”

Susan Browne, M.D. Pediatrician & Grandmother

We loved reading V is for Vegetable to our daughter when she was 2-3. Now, at 5 years old, she reads it to us and still loves it!
